2 Samuel 11:2-5, 2 Samuel 11:8, 9, 2 Samuel 11:14-17, 1 Samuel 13:14, 2 Samuel 12:1-4, 2 Samuel 12:7, 2 Samuel 12:13, 14, Psalm 32, Psalm 51:1-3, 10-12, Psalm 32:5, 1 John 1:9
David’s life is not all sunshine and rainbows. Like all of humanity he has flaws and sin. He sleeps with Bathsheba who is not his wife. He has her husband murdered to make her his wife. As a result, Nathan the prophet confronts David.
His son will pass away. Family strife becomes David’s story. He has a major conflict with another son Absalom. War between them breaks out. It’s a sad end to the reign of an incredible man.
While David had big plans to build a temple for God in Jerusalem, God tells him that he won’t build it, but someone else will. Bathsheba will give birth to another son for David. A boy named Solomon whowill become king after David.
While it’s easy for us to sometimes look at a character like David with rose colored glasses, the truth is no one is perfect. If God only used perfect people, He would not get a lot done. So this week we see how God Pursues His Creation Through Unfaithful People.

David will eventually succeed Saul as King of Israel. He defeats Goliath. He unites Judah and Jerusalem. He becomes more than a national hero or icon; he becomes the king by which all kings in Israel will be judged. He is a man after God’s own heart. And God positions him for great success as king of Israel.

Despite some of the good within Israel during the time of the judges, they find themselves in their disobedience oppressed by the Philistines who capture the ark of the covenant. God through Samuel raises up the first king of Israel, King Saul. He will deliver Israel from the Philistines but will ultimately fall short of God’s standards through his eventual disobedience. This causes God to reject him as king.

Genesis 12:1-3, Ruth 1:1, Deut. 23: 3-4, Leviticus 25:25, Ruth 4:1-6, 7-8, 18-22, Ephesians 2:13-18
At first glance, the story of Ruth seemingly does not fit among stories of kings in judges.
Some have chosen to characterize the book of Ruth like a Hallmark movie–Girl comes to town, runs into eligible and desirable bachelor, they fall in love and live happily ever after.
Others characterize Ruth as a punch-in-the-gut reality tv show– A girlgets married, tragedy strikes when husband dies, she has a bitter mother-in-law, her sister-in-law bales and she is left to fend for herself in a patriarchal society. However, she meets someone who finally steps up, she finds her way and succeeds despite all the bad circumstances and people around her.
However, Ruth is not just a love story or a reminder of life's realities.Ruth is a story of redemption. Although life, death, struggle, and love all have a place in the story, Ruth’s story is about redemption that is offered to EVERYONE.

Judges 2:10, Judges 6:11-16, Judges 7:2, Judges 7:7, Judges 7:9-11, Judges 7:14, Judges 7:20-22, Judges 8:28
Today we move into a new period for the people of Israel–the time of the judges.
Often when you talk with someone about engaging in ministry in some fashion, one of the quickest responses is, “I’m not qualified for that” or “I didn’t go to bible college” or “I don’t think I can do that.”
Maybe you have felt too small to serve in some regard, or you have felt that you have done too much wrong in life to be used by God in any kind of way. If you’ve ever felt that way and stayed out of some work of God because of it, this messages for you.
The book of Judges is a story that teaches us God’s pursuit invites you to be a part of His mission.

Judges 21:25; Joshua 2:1, 9-11, 4:5-7, 11:23, 24:14, 15; Matthew 1:5-6
In the hit show, “Game of Thrones,” we are introduced to an entirely different world where nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros: Baratheon, Bolton, Lannister, Stark, Targaryen
It’s a time of darkness and death. Evil seems to be the only thing that reigns in Westeros. As each different house clamors, positions, murders and alliance their way to be in a position to take the Iron Throne and unite Westeros under their rule.
In many ways it is a reminder of what it must have been like for Israel. As we enter Act 2 of The Story, this part of Israel’s history is all aboutwho is ultimately in charge?
Israel is going to fluctuate between a theocracy–God leading the people through a judge. And a monarchy–the people looking to an earthly king for leadership. And during this season of Israel’s history, the end of the book of judges gives us some dark insight into how things are going for them. In those days there was no king in Israel; all the people did what was right in their own eyes. [Judges 21:25 NRSV]
This is how it goes in Game of Thrones. There isn’t one true king over Westeros. So everyone fights to have their way and for the next seven weeks, we see similar things in Israel. A dark and chaotic time in some ways–oppression, war, death, judges & kings.
Who is ultimately in charge? And how is this young nation of Israelsupposed to survive in the world?
The first leader after Moses is a man named Joshua. Just before Moses’ death God had called Moses to set Joshua apart as the next leader. Joshua is the one who will take them into the Promised Land. And throughout his time as leader of Israel, He is going to remind the people of one thing
God’s Pursuit Calls Us to Remember His Faithfulness. Because when times are dark, When you’re trying to figure out who’s in control, when life isn’t going how you thought it would, when everyone is doing whatever they want, we should remember God’s faithfulness.

LS Community Church live Sunday gathering, November 24; teaching by Stan Rodda.
Numbers 10:11-13, Numbers 11:11-12, Numbers 13:25-28; 30-31, Numbers 14:10-12, Deuteronomy 2:7, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Deuteronomy 34:10
The last few weeks we have met some incredible characters who God used to continue writing the story: Abram, Joseph, Moses. And now God’s people have formed a nation, Israel.
They have some commands that are guiding their way and they are so close to experiencing one of God’s promises fulfilled– The Promised Land.
All they have to do is to be faithful and obedient and to keep following God right into the land.
But the story goes awry again as His people wander. They complain. They get angsty. Mutiny is considered against Moses and it gets kind of ugly.
And despite all of that, we still discover that God Pursues His Creation Even When We Wander.

Exodus 20:1,2, 3-11, 12-17 Deuteronomy 6:4, 7:25 Hosea 4:1-3
Moses has lead the people out of Egypt. The Egyptian army is wiped out at the Red Sea. And there’s a bit of mutiny within the people. As they are hungry and cry out to go back to Egypt
By Exodus 19 we learn that they have been wandering around for three months. And it is here on Mount Sinai that God will begin laying the groundwork.
For this new nation God tells Moses to gather the people at the base of the mountain where He addresses the entire nation in Exodus 20.
Then God spoke all these words: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. –Exodus 20:1, 2 NRSV
This is the beginning of what we call The 10 Commandments.

LS Community Church live Sunday gathering, November 10; teaching by Corbett Cutts.
Exodus 1:6-7, 4:30-31, 5:1-2, 6:9, 7:20-21, 12:28, 12:30-32.
Exodus brings us to the story of Moses and the 10 plagues. At this point in the story, Israel has heavily populated Egypt. Pharaoh, feeling threatened, decided the best way to control this influx of people is to enslave them. And so began many years of Israelite enslavement.
Moses heard from God that he is to lead his people out of Egypt to the promised land. So, Moses initially asks Pharaoh to let them go. But when Pharaoh declines his request saying he doesn’t even know the God Moses is referring to, God has a plan to make it happen while proving to Pharaoh who He is.
But even with the freedom from slavery and a God that who proven his is sovereign, times got tough, and the Israelites didn’t always keep the faith that God is He is says He is and that is supreme over all other Gods (and idols) and His plan.

Whoever has ears, let them hear.
Welcome to LS Community Church.
The heartbeat that drives us is the desire to give every man, woman and child the opportunity to hear, know and follow Jesus. There is nothing more important than that.
God has put a new calling on LS Community Church to be a unique expression of church. We are a Bible-based community of people, from all over the Lee’s Summit community and surrounding areas, who make up an extended spiritual family and network of disciple makers. We believe that one’s faith is not meant to be only personal but should be shared with others. To do this, we focus all our efforts on inviting followers of Jesus to walk in new rhythms as disciples of Jesus. These rhythms are a repeating cycle which include: understanding identity, hearing and obeying the voice of Jesus, living on mission and sharing the Gospel with the people God has placed in each of our lives.
