In the book of Esther, God is not mentioned once. And yet, His fingerprints are all over it. Many of us experience this in our own lives today. We do our best to follow Jesus but sometimes it feels as if God is silent, and we aren’t sure what we are supposed to do next.
While some Jews have returned to Jerusalem, some have chosen to stay in Persia.
Some of those people who have stayed are Mordecai and Esther.
The story of Esther answers questions like: Can God still work in a foreign kingdom? Does He still care for His people? Is He going to come through? Where is he? What do we do when God is silent?
The answer is simple. Stay faithful even when God is silent.

Ezra 3:1-5, Ezra 3:11, Ezra 4:1-3, Haggai 1:1-4, 7-8, Zechariah 1:1; 8:2, 3, Ezra 6:16-1-2
After generations in captivity, the people of Israel are beginning to return home. Persia has released captives. Ezra is a prophet among those who go back home. He leads out in restoring the Temple.
Throughout much of what we read in Ezra, we repeatedly heard, “Then the Lord said, Then the Lord said, Then the Lord said, "From captivity and God’s silence to a very loud and clear voice from God. "Now, it’s about being faithful to His call.

Time travel isn’t possible, but it sure was fun to think about in the “Back to the Future”
movies. Going back in time, almost ruining a bunch of things and realizing, you must get back to where you belong. You must get back to the future.
Israel finds itself in a similar place. For so long they have looked forward to a future
hope. A promise they knew, believed and trusted that God was bringing them to. But they find themselves in captivity to Assyria, Babylon and Persia. They have lost their identity in God. And now they are in a place they shouldn’t be.
God raises up men and women to continue to show His faithfulness. He raises up Ezra to
boldly lead out in the temple rebuild. He raises up Nehemiah who will help to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. He will raise up Esther at just the right time to save the Jewish peopleremaining in Persia from extinction.
And to get to where God has promised they would go, they realize they must go back to
where they were. To get to the future promised to them but must go back to eventually have that preferred future. And the truth they discover along the way is a truth we must constantly go back to as well, faithfulness is the key.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2, Daniel 1:1-2, Daniel 1:11-20, Daniel 3:4-6, Isaiah 1:2-3, Genesis 1:26-28, Daniel 9:15-19, Jeremiah 29:10-14, 1 Peter 2:9-12
Daniel, one of Gods prophets, is taken away to Babylon. But he is faithful to God
while in captivity, and God is faithful to Daniel. He rises through the ranks. He ends up in a
position of power and influence. Persia eventually overthrows Babylon and Persia allows
Jewish captives to go back home. It’s a time when Israel rediscovers that their identity is not in
the temple or the land. Their identity is in God Himself.

2 Kings 21:6-7, 2 Kings 21:13b, Ezekial 1:1; 2:3, Ezekiel 7:5-8, Jeremiah 2:4, 11-12, 2 Kings 25:1, 2, Jeremiah 21:4, 5, Lamentations 1:1-3, Lamentations 3:21, 22
We have talked about some difficult periods of time in the history of Israel. Just when everything seemed to be on track–the Temple had been completed, they were coming off King David’s and King Solomon's reign – these were the glory days for Israel, prosperity, wealth, security and most importantly, God’s presence with them.
But they quickly forgot their identity in God. They focused too much on the land. Too much on being like the people around them. They went backward to pagan gods and idol worship. And this led to a myriad of other problems within the nation of Israel. We have seen that when you shift away from your God given identity it leads to division.
Israel is divided among political and territorial lines, going from a united nation to two kingdoms (north and south). God pursues His people trying to remind them of their identity in Him. But they don’tlisten. Their refusal to align with God is the beginning of the end for Israel. The north collapsed had already collapsed under a severe Assyrian empire. But God for the moment has spared the southern Kingdom (Judah) Sadly, that doesn’t last much longer. About 136 years after the south was saved. It will also meet its end and we will discover the reality that living a false identity leads to complete collapse.
And even though Israel is about to collapse, God continues to pursue. God calls Ezekiel & Jeremiah into action to try and turn Judah around before it’s too late.

1 Kings 17:7-8, 2 Kings 17:18, 23, 2 Kings 19:9-12, 2 Kings 19:14-19, 2 Kings 19:20, 21, 2 Kings 19:22-23, 27-28, 32-34, 2 Kings 19:35, 36
As the northern kingdom collapses and the southern kingdom is threatened, we discover a king in the south who pursues God in an incredible way. And God will save the south at least for the moment.
But this story will come with some warnings from the prophet Isaiah. And in the big picture we learn God Pursues His Creation Even When All Seems Lost.
While the lessons and prophecies we see are specific to Judah in this moment in history, there are still some lessons for us for what to do when everything seems lost and life seems to befalling apart.

When it comes to following Jesus, when it comes to following God, the path is not always easy.
Along the way there are shiny things that pop up that distract us from the path. Like a shiny lure and bait snagging a fish out of the water. So too are things in this world.
We are constantly having to choose: Who is God in my life? Is it me? My time? My money? My career? Or is God truly God in my life? The choice is a constant one which is why Jesus tells us to take up our cross daily
New gods, idols are always tugging at us and we must decide in each moment Who is truly God?
And which direction will I go?
If you have ever felt this way. Like you were stuck between two opinions. Stuck between two gods.
Then this is the message for you.
God begins raising up prophets who confront bad kings in both Israel and Judah. These prophets are bold men of God who continually point Israel back to who they are supposed to be. They confront false prophets from foreign nations. They confront sin within the people. They confront the kings who lead the people away from God’s identity for them. Elijah and Elisha being two of the most prominent prophets in this season of Israel’s history.

LS Community Church live Sunday gathering, January 19th; teaching by Corbett Cutts.
1 Samuel 8:11-18, 1 Kings 12:13, 1 Kings 12:16, 1 Kings 12:5-6, 1 Kings 12: 26-27, 1 Kings 12:28,
For so long God had promised Israel land as an inheritance. He even promised His very presence in the ark of the covenant and the temple. But Israel misses the big picture. For too long they put their identity in their land and not in the reality that God was present with them. This shift from their identity leads to the collapse of Israel. They split into two kingdoms, the Northern (Israel) who would follow Jeroboam and the Southern (Judah) who would follow Rehoboam.
The South held a major advantage in the power struggle between the two kingdoms – the Temple was in Jerusalem which was in Judah and that presents a significant problem for Jeroboam because it meant that the Israelites in the North had no place to worship God.
Jeroboam is faced with a major decision:
• Does he remain faithful to the covenant with Yahweh and assume the risk of allowing the Israelites to travel to Judah to worship?
• Or does he take matters into his own hands?

Saturday Jan 18, 2025
LS Community Church pastors Stan Rodda, Kevin Hartman, and Corbett Cutts sit down together to talk through our upcoming series - The Story: Loosing My Religion.
If you were to shine a spotlight on Israel, you might hear them singing, “That’s us in the corner. That’s us in the spotlight, losing our religion.”
After centuries of pursuing an earthly king, Israel completely forgets their identity. God had built them through Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. God has rescued them from Egypt and foreign nations. He has brought them into the promised land. And they still want to be like everyone around them.
God gave them their kings and it didn’t go the way they hoped. And now they begin to completely lose their identity to foreign nations and pagan gods. They intermarry, they stop following Torah and sacrificing as they should. They abandon Yahweh for the identity of false gods and nations. They sacrifice to false gods. They lose their religion, their identity.
Empire after empire rise and eventually swallow up the directionless nation of Israel. With no anchor in their identity as God’s people, they are eventually defeated and brought into captivity in foreign nations. They have completely forgotten who and whose they are.
Yet during an incredibly dark chapter, God continues to pursue. He raises up prophets despite Israel’s rebellion to call them back to Himself. These prophets rise in both the Northern and Southern kingdoms. They also appear in captivity. No matter how far God’s people have strayed, He continues His relentless pursuit of His creation.

LS Community Church live Sunday gathering, January 12; teaching by Stan Rodda.
1 Kings 3:4-10, Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 20:29, Exodus 25:6, 22, 1 Kings 6:1, 1 Kings 7:51, 1 Kings 8:22, 23, 1 Kings 8:27, 2 Chronicles 6:40-7
King Solomon was an incredibly wise man. He wrote many proverbs and wisdom sayings. He would be the one to complete his father’s plans for a temple and construct it in Jerusalem. God’s presence fills the temple in the form of a cloud. It’s an incredibly successful and exciting moment as the Temple is dedicated to God.
But ultimately Solomon will also fall short.
He takes hundreds of wives from outside nations, something God had specifically said not to do. This turns his heart against God as he pursues false gods from other nations. God tells him the result is that the kingdom will be torn away from him. It’s the beginning of the end for Israel.

Whoever has ears, let them hear.
Welcome to LS Community Church.
The heartbeat that drives us is the desire to give every man, woman and child the opportunity to hear, know and follow Jesus. There is nothing more important than that.
God has put a new calling on LS Community Church to be a unique expression of church. We are a Bible-based community of people, from all over the Lee’s Summit community and surrounding areas, who make up an extended spiritual family and network of disciple makers. We believe that one’s faith is not meant to be only personal but should be shared with others. To do this, we focus all our efforts on inviting followers of Jesus to walk in new rhythms as disciples of Jesus. These rhythms are a repeating cycle which include: understanding identity, hearing and obeying the voice of Jesus, living on mission and sharing the Gospel with the people God has placed in each of our lives.
